I managed to push this thought out of my mind for a few hours of today but I just remembered it and its bugging me already.

Today when i was in the car i pulled up at the lights next to a poultry truck. Now having been involved with animal liberation activism i know that the conditions of battery farm chickens arnt all that good but i have never seen anything as bad as this before. This truck was stacked full of those bread crates (you know the ones they use at bakeries, kinda like milk crates only more shallow) anyway the chickens, alive and all were packed into these bread crate type things, maybe 4-6 of them each crate in 35 degree heat and the truck was so huge that it would allow for literally hundreds of crates in the center with no air to breathe. This REALLY upset me, these poor chickens looked so freaked out and they were packed as tightly together as you might pack a cabbage or other vegitible. These animals are ALIVE, they breathe, they THINK, they FEEL. Sure they are food but they are not FUCKING VEGITABLES when will people learn, this kind of behaviour wouldnt be acceptable for a dog or a cat why a chicken? how the hell can anyone justify treating a chicken differently, they're all animals and i guess i thought what set us apart from animals (apart from the immense pleasure that we get from destroying our planet) was that we actually THINK. Enough said of my stupid rant anyway, just animals do not equal vegitables and they should NEVER be allowed to be treated that way.

BTW if anyone actually reads this and agrees with me then try doing a few things to show you care:

-Buy free range chicken products (these chickens can actually move if they want to)
-Dont support huge multinationals like KFC and mcdonalds (apart from the ethical considerations of supporting multinational corporate criminals, think about how they force the market to cut costs, in a way theyre the people that are influencing the poultry companies to save space) (even im guilty of this at times, but after today i dont think so...)
-If you cant do the above maybe consider avoiding chicken? sure its really quite yummy but cows and sheep have big paddocks to run around in. personally being a non meat eater at home at all i get into the seafood, for one it tastes great and for two its taking from the wild, the fish has the whole ocean to move around in (of course the fishing industry has its own issues but lets not get into that for now)
